- Types of retention for implant-supported fixed prosthesis: a narrative literature reviewpor Clara Almeida-Mares el junio 24, 2022 a las 5:00 am
Background: The development of implant dentistry, along with implant-supported prostheses, made it possible to carry out functional and aesthetic rehabilitation treatments for patients, promoting comfort and durability in the results. For the achievement of the rehabilitation treatment, the choice of the retentive system of the prosthesis that best suits the patient's expectations, together with their clinical and radiographic conditions is essential. Objective: Perform a literature review addressing the main retention systems for fixed prostheses on implants, especially screwed and cemented, contextualizing them with new materials, components and techniques, guiding the decision-making of dental surgeons for their clinical planning. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search was performed on MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library and SciElo platforms, filtering articles in Portuguese or English, with no date restriction until June 2, 2021. Conclusion: The choice of the retention system to be used involves several factors. A gold standard retention technique has not yet been established, due to the advantages and disadvantages of each. The choice of retention method must be made in conjunction with the patient and more clinical studies with longer follow-up are necessary to obtain more information.
- Prevalência de infecções hospitalares e assistência odontológica: um estudo transversal.por Lara Maria Moreira de Faria el junio 24, 2022 a las 5:00 am
Aim: To make a comparison between the prevalence of hospital infections over a period of 13 months between two groups: patients hospitalized without dental care and with dental care. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study, through data regarding the rates of hospital infections obtained in two groups: with and without dental care, considering more specifically the sectors: Intensive care unit (ICU) and neruological clinic. Patients over 16 years-old, of both genders and who were diagnosed with hospital infection after 48 hours of hospitalization or 48 hours after discharge, were included in the sample. Results: Between March 2016 and March 2017, a prevalence of hospital infection was observed of 3. 14% in patients without dental care and from March 2017 to March 2018, the prevalence was 2. 85% in patients who had dental care. Conclusion: The ICU was the sector with the highest occurrence of infections. Dental care was not associated with the occurrence of infections.
- Nodular fasciitis on the zygomatic region: immunohistochemical analysis and literature reviewpor Moisés Willian Aparecido Gonçalves el junio 22, 2022 a las 5:00 am
Background: Nodular Fasciitis (NF) is characterized as a benign, fast-growing lesion with proliferation of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. The use of immunohistochemistry is important for the diagnostic definition and if its findings are not clear, the differential diagnosis will be challenging, even more when the clinical findings do not correspond with the histopathological characteristics. Objective: Here, we reported a case of dermal Nodular Fasciitis affecting zygomatic region of a 64 years old male who complained of swelling in the right side of the face for 3 months, which appeared after an ox-horn trauma. Literature review: We reviewed the literature for all Nodular Fasciitis cases in the zygomatic region. Furthermore, we discussed the relationship of trauma as an etiological factor, main differential diagnoses and immunohistochemical markers for Nodular Fasciitis. Case report: Incisional biopsy was done which revealed benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin characterized by the fusocellular proliferation. Immunohistochemistry revealed positivity for VIM and SMA, being negative for S-100, CKs, CD34, and p53. The Ki-67 index was low. Due to the clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings, the diagnosis of dermal NF was established. Conclusion: This case consists of Nodular Fasciitis, which must be microscopically differentiated from dermatofibroma, solitary fibrous tumor, low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma and atypical fibroxanthoma. Immunohistochemistry should always be performed to elucidate the nature of tumor cells and thus contribute to the correct diagnosis and treatment. Nodular Fasciitis appears to be uncommon in the zygomatic region.
- Proximal enamel thickness quantification in orthodontics for interproximal reduction: A systematic reviewpor David Arias el junio 22, 2022 a las 5:00 am
Background: Interproximal enamel reduction is a valuable procedure in orthodontics used in several conditions, however, not knowing the average value of proximal enamel thickness might lead to excess enamel removal and consequently to adverse effects. Objective: The objective of this systematic review is to expose the average proximal enamel thicknesses found in the literature, and the differences that might be found between different ethnicities and age groups. Search Methods: 5 electronic databases were used to perform the search. Representative keywords comprised of “enamel”, “thickness”, “orthodontics” “proximal thickness” and “quantification”; different combination of these keywords with truncation, and medical subject headings (MESH) were used. Selection Criteria: In vitro and in vivo studies, where the quantification of the proximal enamel thickness of the mesial and distal sides were evaluated independently. Data Collection and Analysis: The PICO model was used to evaluate and select the in vitro and in vivo studies. ROBINS-I tool was used to assess the risk of bias of non-randomized clinical studies and a modification of Cochrane risk of bias tool was implemented for the in vitro studies. The quality of evidence and results were evaluated using The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal checklist tools for Quasi-Experimental Studies. Results: Literature search identified 3298 records from 5 databases. Ultimately, nine eligible studies were included in the review. Conclusions: The proximal enamel thickness increases as we move distal through the arch and is greater on the distal side compared to the mesial side of each individual tooth. Additionally, there is no difference in the proximal enamel thickness between genders but there is between ethnicities.
- Congenital atresia of the submandibular gland duct: report of two clinical cases with spontaneous regression and literature reviewpor Lara Oliveira Freitas el mayo 12, 2022 a las 5:00 am
Background: Congenital atresia of the submandibular gland duct is a rare condition, originated during the embryogenic process, characterized by swelling in the region of the oral floor. A few cases of congenital atresia of the submandibular gland duct have appeared in the literature and only one reports no surgical intervention to date. Case series: In the present study reports two cases of babies with clinical findings demonstrating swelling well-defined in the region of the oral floor, slightly translucent bluish color, painless to palpation, without finding stones or salivary drainage and apparently with no perforation of the submandibular gland duct. Both patients were kept under observation, later presenting spontaneous regression. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of conducting a thorough clinical examination in addition to showing that the use of complementary exams may not be essential.
